Can you believe a standing room only crowd? Well on July 14th
James
Nelson author of 15 books wowed the audience with his
knowledge and enthusiasm for history. His book
George
Washington's Secret Navy was the topic and if you
thought you knew everything about Washington,he proved us
wrong that night.
History buffs from vacationers to locals packed the museum and went away
carrying authographed
books plus a new understanding of how we really
managed to figure out a way to beat the British. Later this summer
he has been
invited to speak at Mt. Vernon!!

Who would have thought that a bell could create so many questions?
Our 929 lb Revere Bell is one of 1000 made between
1792-1838. It was
bought in 1826 and would call parishioners to the Congregational Church.
Later it relocated to AD Gray. Did
you know only 25 are left in Maine?
.
Wow! I guess we never suspected recycling in the "old days" but we recently
learned that our wooden dollhouse so beautifully
done was repurposed from
of all things a wooden commode discarded from an old Waldoboro hotel!
Now that is indeed turning trash
to a treasure !
August 23, 2010 Who knew that "pop goes the weasel" was really a song to help spinners keep track of the size of the skein of
yarn? The weasel was a small slat of wood placed in the wheel and as it turned it would reach a peg at its starting point which would
then make a popping noise The busy spinner then kept track of how many pops she heard to know if the length of yarn was correct to
sell or use.
